What Happens Before a Product Ever Reaches Your Shelf

Tomorrow marks two years of This Little Light of Mine Skincare!

Two years of small batches, late-night labeling sessions, formulation tweaks, tester feedback, and a lot of standing in the kitchen saying things like: “Okay… but what if we adjust the texture just a little?”

From the outside, skincare can look simple. A jar. A label. A lovely product sitting on your shelf. But every product has a story that starts long before that moment.

Before something ever reaches your bathroom counter, it usually goes through a long process of testing, adjusting, and occasionally staring at the mixing bowl like it might reveal its secrets if we wait long enough.

Formulation begins with research and ingredient selection — choosing components that support the skin barrier, layer well with other products, and actually feel good to use.

Then comes testing. Texture gets adjusted. Absorption gets evaluated. Tester feedback comes in. Something gets improved. Then improved again.

Small batch skincare rarely arrives perfectly formed on the first try. It evolves.

Once a formula feels right, the batch process begins.

Ingredients are weighed carefully. Temperatures are monitored. Textures are checked again (because texture matters more than people think).

Then comes the part many people don’t see:

Pouring
Labeling
Packing
Double-checking
and occasionally asking, “Did we already label this one or is this the new batch?”

Because every product that leaves here has been handled by real hands — not conveyor belts.

For our products, there’s also another layer. After formulation and batching, each batch is Reiki-infused by Erin, bringing intentional energy into the process. It’s a quiet moment in the middle of the making — one that reminds us that skincare can support more than just the surface of the skin. By the time a jar reaches you, it has passed through a lot of care, attention, and thoughtful hands.

And honestly? That’s the part I love most.

This shop started as a small idea — something I hoped might help people who were looking for gentler, more intentional skincare. Two years later, that little idea has grown into a community, a ritual for many of you, and a reminder that small things can grow into something meaningful.

Thank you for being part of this. You’ve helped turn This Little Light into something brighter than I ever imagined. Every order, every message, every tester note, every “I love this product” comment — all of it has shaped what this shop has become.

Small batch skincare is never just about what’s in the jar.

It’s about the care behind it. The people involved in creating it. And the quiet moments when someone uses it at the start or end of their day.

So as we step into year three, know that every batch will continue to be made the same way this journey started:

Thoughtfully.
Intentionally.

And with a whole lot of gratitude. Because none of this exists without you.

Love and light,

Carrie

Ritual reflection:

Turns out skincare products have origin stories too — and sometimes those stories become part of the ritual.
